Atheist is a death metal band from Florida, USA. Their music was highly technical and sometimes reminiscent of jazz. They combined brutal riffs with subtle latin music arrangements. They are attributed as being one of the main developers of Florida death metal. They were founded in 1984 under the name Oblivion.
